R Fight was founded by Cynthia Wood after she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer at the age of 29. Being diagnosed so young she knew she wanted to bring awareness to those diagnosed under the age of 40. Feeling alone and being constantly referred to communities where she didn’t feel like she “fit in”, R Fight was born from her chemo chair.

While undergoing treatment herself, helping other women & creating a community for young minority women like herself kept her going. Realizing how much her cancer diagnosis affected her family for a SECOND time, she knew that creating a safe space wasn’t just for those that were diagnosed but for families & caregivers, as well.

Knowing everyone may have a good support system, she introduced the tag lines "Because you're not alone" & Sis, you got this”. Vowing to make sure young women have a safe place to turn to during a very difficult time and keeping them encouraged through every stage of their journey.

Hearing the words from the nurse navigator “You have breast cancer” changed my life suddenly, forever. I was instantly in a dark space and could not understand “why me”. Then at the young age of 30, a mom, fiancé, with a full time job I felt like life was coming for me faster than ever. That then led me into a deep state of depression and anxiety. Doing my day to day trying to feel “normal” but still was a disconnect. I kept the news of my diagnosis to my self and a few of my closest family  for a while, knowing saying it over and over was a reminder and makes it real. The resources sent to me to help navigate through the journey just wasn’t enough and some not for me. Stepping into the R. Fight community gave me some hope, I was the first recipient of the care package in which it helped me during the journey with items I needed after surgery. I felt apart of the community. 

Being apart of the R. Fight community from weeks after my diagnosis until now has been a journey. From organizing care packages to planning events, carrying out the mission has been very rewarding!
